Johnny Manziel: Wake Up Call

by Matt Wyatt

Is Johnny Manziel the most scrutinized rising college sophomore ever?

I don’t think there’s any question. The answer is a giant “yes”. The excessive scrutiny surrounding “Johnny Football” right now was, without debate, brought on by his own actions, his own decisions.

We’ve heard the excuse, “he’s just a 20 year old kid who’s only being watched because he’s good at football”: Okay, sure. Regardless, every college quarterback knows he’s being watched closely.

I was a college quarterback once, and I understand the microscope that comes along with the position. I know what it’s like to be 20 years old and trying to balance the natural desire to have a blast as a college student, while knowing you’re carrying a ton of responsibility wherever you go, whatever you do. Balancing that can be tough. Some get through those initial college years unscathed. Others fail miserably, and...

What About These Emails Veazey Can’t Get?

by Matt Wyatt

Kyle Veazey is good at what he does. An excellent beat-writer who can now add the title “author” to his bio after publishing Champions For Change recently. He proved his salt on the beat at both Mississippi State and Ole Miss, and at both places garnered the reputation as a FOI-savvy dude.

So many “journalists” are afraid to do what Kyle does it seems: lay his name and career on the line in the spirit of true enterprise journalism. In some ways, he’s old school. Time To Soak It In, Bulldog Fans

by Matt Wyatt

Walking outside TD Ameritrade ballpark in Omaha on Monday was a surreal experience for a Mississippi State person. Everywhere, standing in ticket lines, walking the streets downtown, or inside any local pub/restaurant/bar within a mile of college baseball’s “land of milk and honey”, there were maroon-clad fanatics.

My radio partner Richard Cross exclaimed to someone on his phone, “there are more Mississippi State fans in the lobby of our hotel, than UCLA fans in Omaha.” Judging by the numbers seen in the ballpark just before first pitch of Game-1 of the 2013 College World Series title series, that was accurate.

We drove midday to the Fan Zone just beyond the left field wall to scout our broadcast location for Head To Head on Supertalk Mississippi. We made a double-pass by the fans in the ticket lottery line just to grab Read full post.

New Media Rights Partnership between Ole Miss and IMG College

by Richard Cross

The University of Mississippi’s Athletics Department will enter into a new, multi-year media rights agreement with IMG College, a division of IMG Worldwide.

TeleSouth Communications, Inc., a Mississippi company, and IMG College have reached an agreement for the sale of the athletic multi-media rights at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss).

Ole Miss will become an IMG College property, joining the Southeastern Conference and 9 of its member institutions. IMG will become the sole multi-media rights holder for Ole Miss. These media rights are expected to include radio play by play and coaches’ shows, live and tape delayed television broadcasts and pay per view broadcasts, Internet content, stadium signage, game promotions and print publications.

When reached for comment, Ole Miss Athletics Director Ross Bjork would not discuss specifics of the deal, but said, “We, as a department and as a University, are very excited about our future with IMG College. IMG is...
